This is a great example of theater in the round. They do a great deal of musicals and classics and they have student rates.

This is a small theater that does a variety of quality shows for a bargain price. Many shows are original works, or more obscure works than most theaters.

This is a tiny theater that is inexpensive and does cutting edge, often original work. If you're looking for something that is different, this is the place.
Falcon Theater: Burbank http://www.falcontheatre.com/
This is very cool theater that does a variety of material including children's theater. You can volunteer to usher here and get in for free.
Colony Theater: Burbank http://www.colonytheatre.org/
This is great example of a thrust stage. Their seasons include a variety of plays ranging from new work to classics.
Pasadena Playhouse: Pasadena http://www.pasadenaplayhouse.org/
This is one of the top professional theaters in LA. They do a variety of material including classics and original work. Often, the Playhouse is the first step for shows moving to Broadway.
Theater at Boston Court: Pasadena http://www.bostoncourt.com/
This is a beautiful new professional theater in Pasadena that is doing cutting edge material with first rate directors. There are lots of innovative works being produced, but you have to walk in with an open mind.
Pantages Theater: Hollywood http://www.pantages-theater.com/
The Pantages often showcases popular Broadway musicals. This season includes In the Heights, Legally Blonde, Chicago, and Cats.

The Ahmanson's season includes shows straight from or on their way to Broadway. Check out their $20 Hot Tix discount, which is usually available 3 weeks prior to the show's opening.

The Taper's season is always varied - from classics to world premiers. This is an intimate space, and the productions are top-notch. They also offer the $20 Hot Tix discount.
Kirk Douglas Theater: Culver City http://www.centertheatregroup.org/theatres/douglas/
It's a bit of a drive, but if you're into strange, cutting edge, weird stuff, this is a great place for you. The theater is connected to the LA Music Center, and they use this theater to try new, interesting material.
